The Crucifix of St Francis of Assisi returns after 8 centuries

Lo Inédito Multimedia

Revista Arautos do Evangelho

The mission of St. Francis began when the famous San Damiano Crucifix spoke to him, asking him to “rebuild” the Church. At first, he thought the divine voice referred to the chapel in ruins, where he was at that moment, but later he realized that the request referred to something much greater.
From June 15 to 19, the historic Crucifix, venerated for eight centuries in the proto-monastery of St. Clare of Assisi, temporarily re- turned to the Church of San Damiano, allowing the faithful, during those five days, to venerate the image at the site where the magnificent work of the Poverello began.
The image of Christ, painted on canvas and glued to wood around the year 1100, is 2.1 metres in height and 1.3 metres wide.
